2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Greenville finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Greenville finished sixth in Class 5A region two with a 0-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers lost as many games as in any season since 2004. The Tigers hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just one game which followed a 8-4 record in 2021. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Greenville averaged scoring just 11.9 points a game. The Tigers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 38.3 points a game. Since 2010, Greenville has gone a combined 85-62. Their 57.8% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 5A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Greenville has managed to compile a record of 150-128. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 5A and 154th in the AHSAA. The Tigers will be under the direction of new head football coach Garrick Pimienta as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Pimienta served as the offensive coordinator last fall at Greenville and also worked the three previous years at Pike Road, helping the Patriots to their first state title in 2021. The Tigers make yet another coaching change during the off season. The Tigers enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. The Tigers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Park Crossing on Saturday, September 2 at Cramton Bowl. Last year the Park Crossing Thunderbirds finished with an overall record of 0-9 and in seventh place in Class 6A region two. Greenville and Park Crossing have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 2-1-0 record against the Thunderbirds. They last met in 2022 with Greenville winning by a score of 25-19. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
