Flomaton finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Flomaton finished seventh in Class 3A region one with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Flomaton took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2017. The Hurricanes lost as many games as in any season since 2016. The Hurricanes had some tough luck last season as four of their seven losses were by less than eight points. Since 2010, Flomaton has gone a combined 92-56. Their 62.2% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Flomaton has managed to compile a record of 154-118. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 3A and 117th in the AHSAA. The Hurricanes are led by head coach Doug Vickery Jr. who is entering his eighteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 117-73 over the past seventeen seasons at Flomaton. Under his direction the Hurricanes have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won one region crown with Coach Vickery Jr.. Coach Vickery Jr. led to a state championship in 2018. His 143 wins rank 35th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Vickery Jr.'s teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times and won one region championship. Coach Vickery Jr. needs seven wins this season to reach the 150 win milestone. Coach Vickery hopes to get the Hurricanes back on a winning track in 2023. The Hurricanes have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-49 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 3A and 56th in the AHSAA. The Hurricanes will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. Miles Adams will return along the defensive line to anchor the defense. The Hurricanes open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Northview FL on Friday, August 25 at Hurricane Field. Flomaton and Northview FL have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Hurricanes have a 5-2-0 record against Northview FL. They last met in 2022 with Northview FL winning by a score of 48-33. Flomaton lost 3A All-State offensive lineman Mason Dullard to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.
