The Tigers will be under the direction of new head football coach Ed Rigby as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Rigby spent last season at Pike Road after four years at Eufaula. He started his head coaching career at Elba between 2013-1017. Over the course of his career, Coach Rigby's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times and won three region championships. Coach Rigby won a state championship at Elba in 2015. The Tigers have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region three this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 1982 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2023. The Tigers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Brantley on Friday, August 25 at Brantley Field. Last year the Brantley Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in second place in Class 1A region two. The Tigers have a 56-32-3 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Brantley winning by a score of 31-7. Luverne lost 2A All-State punter Bradley Thompson to graduation.
