2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pleasant Valley completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Pleasant Valley just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region six with a 2-4 region record. The Raiders have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2010 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. Pleasant Valley was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Raiders want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.7 points a game. Since 2010, Pleasant Valley has gone a combined 42-89. Their 32.1% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 2A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Pleasant Valley has not won much with a record of 68-185. Their 27.0% winning percentage ranks 57th in Class 2A and 365th in the AHSAA. The Raiders have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. The Raiders are led by head coach Jonathan Nix who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 24-56 over the past eight seasons at Pleasant Valley. The Raiders have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Nix. Over the course of his career, Coach Nix's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times and won one region championship. Coach Nix will be counting on the offensive line to be the strength of the team when they open the season in August. The Raiders could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Pleasant Valley has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2010 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Raiders will return Samuel Duncan who collected 110 tackles on defense. Sophomore QB Braxton Salser will be back to lead the offense along with WR/RB Holt Bentley. The Raiders open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Donoho on Friday, September 1 at Lentz Field. Last year the Donoho Falcons finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region six. The Falcons lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Lynn by a score of 42-0. Pleasant Valley and Donoho have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Raiders have a 8-5-0 record against the Falcons. They last met in 2022 with Pleasant Valley winning by a score of 34-15. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
