2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bullock County finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Bullock County finished eighth in Class 4A region two with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Hornets have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2023. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Bullock County averaged scoring just 10.3 points a game. The Hornets also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 35.6 points a game. Since 2010, the Bullock County football program has struggled with a record of 28-101. Over the past 25 seasons, Bullock County has not won much with a record of 43-203. Their 18.0% winning percentage ranks 62nd in Class 4A and 391st in the AHSAA. The Hornets have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time. The Hornets will be under the direction of new head football coach Jeremy Vines as they enter the 2023 season. This is Coach Vines first head coaching position, but he has been coaching in Bullock and Montgomery Counties for over five years; most recently, he spent last season as the Pike Road High School defensive line coach. This season, the Hornets will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. The Hornets open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Keith on Friday, August 25 at J.V. Caldwell Stadium. Last year the Keith Bears finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in third place in Class 1A region three. The Bears lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Loachapoka by a score of 28-24. Bullock County and Keith have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Hornets have a 2-4-0 record against the Bears. They last met in 2022 with Bullock County winning by a score of 33-16. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
