2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Central finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Central finished sixth in Class 6A region four with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Central Tuscaloosa averaged scoring just 12.1 points a game. The Falcons also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.1 points a game. Since 2010, the Central football program has struggled with a record of 37-96. Over the past 25 seasons, Central has managed to compile a record of 101-158. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 6A and 300th in the AHSAA. The Falcons will be under the direction of new head football coach Demario Pippin as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Pippin was a Central assistant in 2016, coaching running backs. Most recently, he was the football coach, basketball coach and athletic director at Eastwood Middle School. The Falcons will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. After just 2 wins last year, Central will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Falcons open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Tuscaloosa County on Friday, August 25 at Falcon Stadium. Last year the Tuscaloosa County Wildcats finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 7A region three. The Wildcats ended last season on a positive note with a win over Brookwood by a score of 20-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Central and Tuscaloosa County have met a total of 32 times on the football field. The Falcons have a 16-16-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2022 with Tuscaloosa County winning by a score of 44-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
