2023 Preview | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Choctaw County completed the 2022 season with a 4-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region one, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Choctaw County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Brantley by a score of 39-3. The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2015. It marked the first time since the 2003 season that the Tigers qualified for the playoffs. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 1999 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Choctaw County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.5 points a game. Since 2010, the Choctaw County football program has struggled with a record of 24-102. Over the past 25 seasons, Choctaw County has not won much with a record of 65-183. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 1A and 366th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2001. The Tigers will be under the direction of new head football coach Leon Walker as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Walker takes over at Choctaw County this fall. He was the head football coach at Autaugaville in 2016-17. The Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. The Tigers open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Linden on Thursday, August 24 at Linden Athletic Field. Last year the Linden Patriots finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in first place in Class 1A region three. The Patriots lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Brantley by a score of 41-20. Choctaw County and Linden have met a total of 36 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 15-20-1 record against the Patriots. They last met in 2022 with Linden winning by a score of 14-0. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
