Linden completed the 2022 season with a 9-2 record. Last year Linden captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. Linden reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Brantley by a score of 41-20. The defense was very stingy last season as Linden ranked 16th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 12.9 points a game. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Linden has gone a combined 130-35. Their 78.8% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Linden has finished a combined 224-77. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 1A and 23rd in the AHSAA. The Patriots have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1999. The Patriots are led by head coach Travis Lockett who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 35-12 over the past four seasons at Linden. Under his direction the Patriots have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Lockett. Coach Lockett led to a state championship in 2020. The Patriots are considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Patriots have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2006 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. Roderick Brown will be back this season at running back after rushing for 1,277 yards and 17 TDs in 2022. The defense will also be led by Brown this season after collecting 103 total tackles last season. The Patriots open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Choctaw County on Friday, August 25 at Linden Athletic Field. Last year the Choctaw County Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in third place in Class 1A region one. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Brantley by a score of 39-3. Linden and Choctaw County have met a total of 37 times on the football field. The Patriots have a 21-15-1 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with Linden winning by a score of 14-0. Linden lost 1A All-State offensive lineman Demetric Edwards to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates defensive lineman Antonio Jones, athlete Deontae Milton and defensive back Jarvis Packer.
