 2023 Preview 


       Cornerstone Christian completed the 2022 season with a 6-5 record. With their 2-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class AISA-8 Man region one, the Chargers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Cornerstone Christian reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Springwood by a score of 50-8.

       The Chargers improved in 2022 with their first winning season since 2017. The 414 points scored by the Chargers last year were a team record in a single season. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Chargers qualified for the playoffs.

       Cornerstone Christian had a very good offense last year, scoring 37.6 points per game, but it couldn't keep up with a defense that gave up 36.3 points per game.

       Since 2010, Cornerstone Christian has gone a combined 51-83. Their 38.1% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class AISA-8 Man over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 23 seasons, Cornerstone Christian has managed to compile a record of 107-131. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class AISA-8 Man and 233rd in the AHSAA.




       The Chargers are led by head coach James Lee who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-40 over the past six seasons at Cornerstone Christian. Under his direction the Chargers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lee.

      

       The Chargers open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Coosa Valley Academy on Friday, August 25 at Michael B. Willis Memorial Field. Last year the Coosa Valley Academy Rebels finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in fifth place in Class A region one. The Rebels ended last season on a positive note with a win over Sparta Academy by a score of 13-12 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Cornerstone Christian and Coosa Valley Academy have met a total of 20 times on the football field. The Chargers have a 12-8-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2022 with Cornerstone Christian winning by a score of 16-6.
