2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Holly Pond finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Holly Pond finished seventh in Class 2A region six with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Broncos lost as many games as in any season since 2014. The defense allowed a team record 468 points last season. The Broncos have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2023. Holly Pond struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 46.8 points a game. The Broncos would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, the Holly Pond football program has struggled with a record of 34-100. Over the past 25 seasons, Holly Pond has not won much with a record of 87-171. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 2A and 328th in the AHSAA. The Broncos will be under the direction of new head football coach Coleman Mason as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Mason spent last season as the defensive coordinator at Locust Fork. A Susan Moore graduate, Mason began his coaching career at his alma mater in 2013 and was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2017. The Broncos enter the 2023 season in the middle of a 14 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. This season, the Broncos will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region six. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Holly Pond will be to simply win some games. The Broncos open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Clements on Friday, August 25 at Thomas-Michelfelder Field. Last year the Clements Colts finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 3A region eight. Holly Pond and Clements have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Broncos have a 0-2-0 record against the Colts. They last met in 2022 with Clements winning by a score of 48-34. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
