 2023 Preview 


       Madison County completed the 2022 season with a 4-7 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 4A region eight, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Madison County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Deshler by a score of 68-34.

       Since 2010, Madison County has gone a combined 83-64. Their 56.5% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Madison County has managed to compile a record of 139-133. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 4A and 177th in the AHSAA.




       The Tigers are led by head coach Matt Putnam who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 9-13 over the past two seasons at Madison County. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Putnam. Over the course of his career, Coach Putnam's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won one region championship.

       The Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season with a few breaks and a little improvement.

       The Tigers open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Buckhorn on Friday, August 25 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Buckhorn Bucks finished with an overall record of 3-8 and in fourth place in Class 6A region eight. The Bucks lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Hartselle by a score of 52-7.

       Madison County and Buckhorn have met a total of 43 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 12-31-0 record against the Bucks. They last met in 2022 with Buckhorn winning by a score of 29-14.
