 2023 Preview 


       Buckhorn finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-8 record. With their 2-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region eight, the Bucks earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Buckhorn's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hartselle by a score of 52-7.

       The defense allowed a team record 385 points last season. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Bucks qualified for the playoffs. The Bucks last playoff victory came during the 2005 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

       Since 2010, Buckhorn has gone a combined 57-79. Their 41.9% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 6A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Buckhorn has managed to compile a record of 120-146. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 6A and 235th in the AHSAA.




       The Bucks are led by head coach Matt Patterson who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 8-13 over the past two seasons at Buckhorn. Under his direction the Bucks have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Patterson.

       The Bucks could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region eight this season with a few breaks and a little improvement.

       The Bucks open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Madison County on Friday, August 25 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Madison County Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 4A region eight. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Deshler by a score of 68-34.

       Buckhorn and Madison County have met a total of 43 times on the football field. The Bucks have a 31-12-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with Buckhorn winning by a score of 29-14.
