Helena completed the 2022 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Helena just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 6A region three with a 3-3 region record. Helena is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only nine seasons. They have managed a record of 53-44 over the past nine years. Over the past 9 seasons, Helena has managed to compile a record of 53-44. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 6A and 133rd in the AHSAA. The Huskies are led by head coach Richie Busby who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 35-19 over the past five seasons at Helena. Under his direction the Huskies have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Busby. Over the course of his career, Coach Busby's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won four region championships. The Huskies have five returning players on offense and three on defense. Coach Busby is planning to use a two quarterback system to open the season. The Huskies have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region three this season. Helena came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Huskies open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Chelsea on Thursday, August 24 at Husky Stadium. Last year the Chelsea Hornets finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 7A region three. Helena and Chelsea have met a total of 11 times on the football field. The Huskies have a 6-5-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in 2022 with Helena winning by a score of 28-6. The Huskies return 6A All-State Senior receiver Hunter Hale.
