 2023 Preview 


       Jackson-Olin completed the 2022 season with a 4-7 record. With their 3-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region five, the Mustangs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Jackson-Olin's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Center Point by a score of 26-8.

       The Mustangs hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just four games which followed a 9-3 record in 2021.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Jackson-Olin averaged scoring just 11.3 points a game.

       Since 2010, Jackson-Olin has gone a combined 60-74. Their 44.8% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 6A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Jackson-Olin has managed to compile a record of 92-160. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 6A and 314th in the AHSAA.




       The Mustangs are led by head coach Jamaal Bess who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-7 record in his first season at Jackson-Olin. Under his direction the Mustangs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bess. The Mustangs have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 71-45 last season. That ranks 2nd in Class 6A and 14th in the AHSAA.

       The Mustangs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season with a few breaks and a little improvement.

       The Mustangs open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Pelham on Friday, August 25 at J-O Field. Last year the Pelham Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-6 and in second place in Class 6A region three. The Panthers lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to St. Pauls by a score of 38-7.

       Jackson-Olin and Pelham have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Mustangs have a 4-4-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2022 with Jackson-Olin winning by a score of 14-10.
