2023 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Parker completed the 2022 season with a 7-5 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region five, the Thundering Herd earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Parker reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Muscle Shoals by a score of 31-6. Since 2010, Parker has gone a combined 74-67. Their 52.5% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 6A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Parker has managed to compile a record of 145-126. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 6A and 151st in the AHSAA. The Thundering Herd are led by head coach Frank Warren who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 24-12 over the past three seasons at Parker. Under his direction the Thundering Herd have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Warren. Parker returns a lot of talent on defense but to be one of the elite teams in 6A they will need to find a way to score on offense in 2023. If the offense can put up 20 points a game look for the Herd to win a bunch of games. The Thundering Herd should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. Four star athlete Jeremiah Beaman will return on the defensive line to anchor the defense. Naeem Offord will be returning for his junior season at cornerback and is considered one of the top prospects in the Class of 2025. Jourdin Crawford will also be back at defensive tackle for the Herd and is considered another top prospect in the Class of 2025. The Thundering Herd open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Fairfield on Friday, August 25 at Major Brown Memorial Stadium. Last year the Fairfield Tigers finished with an overall record of 3-8 and in fourth place in Class 5A region five. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Leeds by a score of 34-13. Parker and Fairfield have met a total of 20 times on the football field. The Thundering Herd have a 9-11-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2022 with Parker winning by a score of 35-12. Parker lost 6A All-State running back Khalifa Keith to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. The Thundering Herd return 6A All-State Senior defensive lineman Jeremiah Beaman. He was named to the second team last season. The Thundering Herd also return Junior defensive lineman Jourdin Crawford. He was named to the second team. The Thundering Herd also return Junior athlete Naeem Offord. He was named to the second team. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
