Slocomb completed the 2022 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Slocomb just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 4A region two with a 3-4 region record. Since 2010, Slocomb has gone a combined 80-61. Their 56.7% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 4A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Slocomb has managed to compile a record of 140-136. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 4A and 184th in the AHSAA. The Red Tops will be under the direction of new head football coach Paul McLean as they enter the 2023 season. Coach McLean served as the offensive coordinator for Slocomb during the 2022 season. He also has three years of head coaching experience with Ashford Academy from 2007-2009, amassing a 13-17 record. Over the course of his career, Coach McLean's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Red Tops could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Slocomb came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. Junior QB Cade Birge will be returning after completing 75 of 147 passes for 766 yards last season along with 9 touchdowns. The Red Tops open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent G.W. Long on Friday, September 1 at Red Top Stadium. Last year the G.W. Long Rebels finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 2A region two. The Rebels lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Reeltown by a score of 55-0. Slocomb and G.W. Long have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Red Tops have a 3-3-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2022 with G.W. Long winning by a score of 22-15. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
