Ashford finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-7 record. Last year Ashford finished sixth in Class 3A region two with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Yellow Jackets last playoff victory came during the 2002 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Ashford was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Yellow Jackets want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.9 points a game. The Yellow Jackets would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-17 record. Since 2010, Ashford has gone a combined 49-83. Their 37.1% winning percentage ranks 46th in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Ashford has managed to compile a record of 114-144. Their 44.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 3A and 244th in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets will be under the direction of new head football coach David Stapleton III as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Stapleton, a native of Fairhope and a Troy graduate, comes to Ashford after spending 3 seasons with Tuscaloosa County as an assistant coach. He also spent time teaching and coaching at Cordova and Prattville. The Yellow Jackets will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. After just 2 wins last year, Ashford will be hoping to become more competitive in the region. The Yellow Jackets open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Graceville FL on Friday, August 25 at W.H. Brown Field. Ashford and Graceville FL have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 1-1-0 record against Graceville FL.
