Opp completed the 2022 season with a 8-3 record. With their 7-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region two, the Bobcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Opp's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to W.S. Neal by a score of 27-13. Since 2010, Opp has gone a combined 80-64. Their 55.6% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Opp has managed to compile a record of 142-134. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 3A and 176th in the AHSAA. The Bobcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Matt Brunson as they enter the 2023 season. Coach Brunson has been a head coach over a 25 year span with state titles at Baker in 2016 and 2020. He has a career record of 213-73 in directing teams at Vernon (1997-2000), Crestview (2001-10) and Baker (2011-21). The win total includes 0 wins in Alabama and 213 victories from outside the state. The Bobcats went out of state to land a top notch head coach and will be looking to continue the winning ways in 2023. The Bobcats are considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The defense will be led by Colby Ballard this season after collecting 110 total tackles last season. Nelson Hall added another 107 tackles on defense and will be back in 2023. The Bobcats open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Andalusia on Thursday, August 24 at Channell Lee Field. Last year the Andalusia Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 14-1 and in second place in Class 4A region two. The Bulldogs won the Class 4A State Championship last season when they defeated Cherokee County by a score of 28-7 in the Super Seven finals in Auburn. Opp and Andalusia have met a total of 93 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 36-53-4 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with Andalusia winning by a score of 35-7. Opp lost 3A All-State running back Terry Davis to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Also graduating were teammates athlete Gray Jennings and punter Robbie Gafford.
