 2023 Preview

White Plains finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year White Plains finished sixth in Class 4A region four with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Wildcats have not qualified for the playoffs since the 1994 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history.

White Plains was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Wildcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.9 points a game.

White Plains struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 36.0 points a game.

Since 2010, the White Plains football program has struggled with a record of 34-96.

Over the past 25 seasons, White Plains has not won much with a record of 80-170. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 4A and 340th in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Blake Jennings as they enter the 2023 season.  Coach Jennings served as an assistant football coach at Ohatchee for 12 years. He was defensive coordinator for nine years.

Coach Jennings want the team to be more physical this season. They want to run the football first but will be prepared to throw it around when needed.

The Wildcats will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region four this season. After just 2 wins last year, White Plains will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

The Wildcats will be led by QB/FS Dylan Barksdale when they kickoff the season in 2023. Dalton Luker will be returning to the offensive line and at the linebacker position on defense.

The Wildcats open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Ranburne on Friday, August 25 at Ranburne Stadium. Last year the Ranburne Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region four. The Bulldogs ended last season on a positive note with a win over Randolph County by a score of 27-18 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

White Plains and Ranburne have met a total of 26 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 5-21-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2022 with White Plains winning by a score of 14-7.
