 2024 Preview 


       Collinsville completed the 2023 season with a 8-3 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region seven, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Collinsville's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Southeastern by a score of 28-21.

       Since 2010, Collinsville has gone a combined 102-54. Their 65.4% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Collinsville has managed to compile a record of 153-119. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 3A and 128th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Panthers are led by head coach Ernie Willingham who is entering his sixteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 99-67 over the past fifteen seasons at Collinsville. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Willingham. His 150 wins rank 34th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Willingham's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eighteen times and won four region championships.

Season Outlook:

       The Collinsville Panthers will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2024 season. The Panthers move up in classification to Class 3A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

      

       Following back-to-back 8-3 seasons in Collinsville the Panthers will be out to continue that recent success in 2024. Last year the Collinsville defense allowed 210 points in eleven games but 119 of those points came against two excellent teams in Fyffe and Pisgah. So in reality the defense played well most of the season.

       Region 8 had a total makeover during the off season. While the AHSAA not only combined Geraldine and Sylvania with Asbury and Brindlee Mountain they moved four schools up in classification from 2A to join them. Fyffe, Collinsville, Holly Pond and Whitesburg Christian will all be united in what is now Region 8.

    The Panthers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region eight this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

      

Players to Watch in 2024:
      RB Quintavious Rogers totaled 1,759 yards and 26 touchdowns last year and will be returning this season.

      QB Mason McAteer threw for 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns last season and will be back to lead the offense in 2024.

Season Opener:
       The Panthers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Cedar Bluff on Friday, August 30 at Bruce Field. Last year the Cedar Bluff Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 1A region seven. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Wadley by a score of 62-10.

       Collinsville and Cedar Bluff have met a total of 74 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 30-41-3 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2019 with Collinsville winning by a score of 38-0.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Thomasville scored 54 points against Gulf Shores in the first quarter of a game in 2003. They managed to hang on for an 81-14 win.
