 2024 Preview 


       Geraldine completed the 2023 season with a 12-2 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 3A region six, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Geraldine made a nice playoff run in 2023, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Madison Academy team by the score of 48-43.

       No team at Geraldine ever won more games in a season than the twelve victories last year. The last time they won as many was back in 2000. The 551 points scored by the Bulldogs last year were a team record in a single season.

       Over the past two seasons the Bulldogs have Finished 21-6 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Geraldine has gone a combined 101-62. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Geraldine has managed to compile a record of 172-110. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 3A and 91st in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Geraldine lost 3A All-State  defensive lineman Jaxon Colvin to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates athlete Carlos Mann and offensive lineman Jayse Cook.

Head Coach:
       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Michael Davis who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 28-10 over the past three seasons at Geraldine. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Davis.

Season Outlook:

       The Geraldine Bulldogs will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 3A but move from region six over to region eight.

      

       The Bulldogs enter the 2024 season riding a 5 game regular season winning streak.

       The Geraldine Bulldogs have it going on under head coach Michael Davis. They won a school record twelve games in 2023 and look to continue that success in the seasons to come. The offense scored 552 points last year including at least 30 in each of their last nine games.

       Region 8 had a total makeover during the off season. While the AHSAA not only combined Geraldine and Sylvania with Asbury and Brindlee Mountain they moved four schools up in classification from 2A to join them. Fyffe, Collinsville, Holly Pond and Whitesburg Christian will all be united in what is now Region 8.

       The Bulldogs will search for a replacement for All-State player Carlos Mann. Last year he accounted for 2,575 yards and 42 touchdowns. They will return fifteen seniors in 2024 so there will be some experience back when the season opens.

       The offense will have six starters back with five returning to the defense in 2024.

    The Bulldogs are considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Bulldogs are making another deep run into the playoffs. The Bulldogs have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2006 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

      

Players to Watch in 2024:
      Junior DL Joe Garcia had more than 20 tackles for loss including five sacks and 118 total tackles last year and will beack this season.

Season Opener:
       The Bulldogs open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Sardis on Thursday, August 22 at Lions Stadium. Last year the Sardis Lions finished with an overall record of 6-4 and in fifth place in Class 5A region seven. The Lions ended last season on a positive note with a win over Hokes Bluff by a score of 42-20 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Geraldine and Sardis have met a total of 46 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 20-25-1 record against the Lions. They last met in 2021 with Geraldine winning by a score of 39-0.

In 1970 Monroe Academy won the first championship in the A.I.S.A. by defeating Lowndes Academy 6-0.
