2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Douglas completed the 2023 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Douglas finished sixth in Class 5A region seven with a 0-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Eagles have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2024. Since 2010, the Douglas football program has struggled with a record of 43-98. Over the past 25 seasons, Douglas has not won much with a record of 61-190. Their 24.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 5A and 367th in the AHSAA. The Eagles have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time. Head Coach: The Eagles are led by head coach Brandon Lyles who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-22 over the past four seasons at Douglas. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Lyles. Season Outlook: The Douglas Eagles will play in Class 5A region eight during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Eagles remain in 5A but move from region seven over to region eight. The Eagles finished last season with a 4-6 record. Even with them only winning four games it gave them a record of 16-15 over the past three seasons. Those 16 victories are the best three year run in school history. The Eagles will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region eight this season. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Cason Walls will be returning after completing 80-of-138 passes for 1,129 yards and 14 TDs last season. Returning Starters: RB/LB- Canaan Murray, Sr.; QB- Cason Walls, Sr.; WR /DB- Brody Campbell, Sr.; OL/DL- Zane Hayes, Jr.; LB- Brock Walls, Jr. Season Opener: The Eagles open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Susan Moore on Friday, August 30 at Authur Jarvis Stadium. Last year the Susan Moore Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 3A region seven. The Bulldogs lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Geraldine by a score of 56-14. Douglas and Susan Moore have met a total of 17 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 7-10-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2023 with Douglas winning by a score of 20-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
