2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fairhope finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Fairhope finished sixth in Class 7A region one with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Fairhope took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2016. The Pirates lost as many games as in any season since 2016. The Pirates hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 8-3 record in 2022. Fairhope was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Pirates want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.4 points a game. Since 2010, Fairhope has gone a combined 102-55. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 7A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Fairhope has managed to compile a record of 171-109. Their 61.0% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 7A and 88th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Fairhope lost 7A All-State defensive back Ameyr Adams to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Head Coach: The Pirates are led by head coach Tim Carter who is entering his tenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 57-39 over the past nine seasons at Fairhope. Under his direction the Pirates have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won one region crown with Coach Carter. His 155 wins rank 33rd among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Carter's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of sixteen times and won five region championships. Season Outlook: The Fairhope Pirates will play in Class 7A region one during the 2024 season. The Pirates suffered through their first losing season since 2016 but have hopes of bouncing back in 2024. Fairhope also missed a playoff berth for the first time since 2016. In 2024 the Pirates will face seven teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. Their four non-region opponents won 36 combined games Spanish Fort: 9, Choctawhatchee: 10, Pensacola Catholic: 11 and Briarwood: 6 Fairhope will be in somewhat of a rebuilding phase as they return just four starters to the offense and four on defense this season. The Pirates will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Jackson Robertson threw for 878 yards last season and tossed 6 TDs for the Pirates. Returning Starters: RB/LB Patrick Harbin Jr., LB Rock Gearhart, QB Jackson Robertson, RB/CB Dez Thomas Season Opener: The Pirates open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Spanish Fort on Thursday, August 22 at Fairhope Municipal Stadium. Last year the Spanish Fort Toros finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 6A region one. The Toros lost in the second round of the Class 6A playoffs to Pike Road by a score of 31-17. Fairhope and Spanish Fort have met a total of 9 times on the football field.
