 2024 Preview 


       G.W. Long completed the 2023 season with a 7-4 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region two, the Rebels earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. G.W. Long's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Goshen by a score of 61-40.

       Since 2010, G.W. Long has gone a combined 114-45. Their 71.7% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, G.W. Long has managed to compile a record of 175-104. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 2A and 79th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Rebels are led by head coach David Watts who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 23-10 over the past three seasons at G.W. Long. Under his direction the Rebels have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Watts. Over the course of his career, Coach Watts' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

Season Outlook:

       The G.W. Long Rebels will play in Class 2A region two during the 2024 season.

      

       The Rebels have qualified for the playoffs in each of the past five seasons and would like to build on that streak this year. They still have Cottonwood in the region so that will be an important game on October 25th and may just be for the region championship.

    The Rebels are considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Season Opener:
       The Rebels open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Houston Academy on Friday, August 23 at Rebel Stadium. Last year the Houston Academy Raiders finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in second place in Class 3A region two. The Raiders lost in the second round of the Class 3A playoffs to Mobile Christian by a score of 35-10.

       G.W. Long and Houston Academy have met a total of 46 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 22-23-1 record against the Raiders. They last met in 2021 with G.W. Long winning by a score of 21-20.
