2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Geneva finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Geneva finished sixth in Class 4A region two with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The defense allowed a team record 383 points last season. Geneva struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 38.3 points a game. Since 2010, Geneva has gone a combined 61-82. Their 42.7% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Geneva has managed to compile a record of 152-116. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 4A and 107th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Panthers are led by head coach Jamel Harris who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-7 record in his first season at Geneva. The Panthers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Harris. Season Outlook: The Geneva Panthers will play in Class 4A region two during the 2024 season. The Panthers have not made the playoffs since 2021 but have a better shot this season with the realignment of region 2. Only two current teams this season qualified for the playoffs in 2023. That alone will give them a shot. Geneva and Dale County are the only two teams who remain in one of the most shuffled regions in any classification this year. Only one team, 3A Straughn, won more games than they lost last season. This will be one wide open region race until November. The Panthers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Geneva missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2024. Returning Starters: WR/RB Dalton Mock, WR/DB Dalton Mock Season Opener: The Panthers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Wicksburg on Friday, August 30 at Hugh Owen Stadium. Last year the Wicksburg Panthers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 2A region two. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Reeltown by a score of 34-14. Geneva and Wicksburg have met a total of 11 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 7-4-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2019 with Geneva winning by a score of 26-21. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
