2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Daleville finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Daleville finished eighth in Class 3A region two with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Since 2010, Daleville has gone a combined 76-73. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Daleville has managed to compile a record of 138-133. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 4A and 181st in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Daleville lost 3A All-State athlete Omarion Pinckney to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Coaching Change: Will Garner leaves Daleville after just three seasons with a record of 6-24. Coach Garner accepted a position at Dothan High as an assistant football coach. 2024 Head Coach: Maurice Freeman arrives in Daleville after a great career in Georgia. He has compiled a record of 257-120 at three different schools in Georgia including 196-65 at Brooks County in twenty-one seasons. He led the Trojans to the only two state titles in school history. Between his two stints with the Trojans, he made stops at Southwest Macon from 1998-2001 and Brunswick from 2002-2007. The win total includes 0 wins in Alabama and 257 victories from outside the state. Season Outlook: The Daleville Warhawks will play in Class 4A region two during the 2024 season. The Warhawks move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Warhawks have not made the playoffs since 2019 but have a better shot this season with the realignment of region 2. Only two current teams this season qualified for the playoffs in 2023. That alone will give them a shot. Their non-region games are against Florala, Wicksburg and Luverne. In Region 2 only one team, 3A Straughn, won more games than they lost last season. This will be one wide open region race until November. The Warhawks could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Daleville has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2019 but hope to return to the post season this year. Season Opener: The Warhawks open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Florala on Friday, August 30 at Matthews Stadium. Last year the Florala Wildcats finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 1A region two. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to Sweet Water by a score of 48-22. Daleville and Florala have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Warhawks have a 0-3-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 1977 with Florala winning by a score of 24-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
