2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Florala completed the 2023 season with a 7-4 record. With their 5-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region two, the Wildcats earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Florala's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Sweet Water by a score of 48-22. Since 2010, Florala has gone a combined 63-78. Their 44.7% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Florala has managed to compile a record of 110-150. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 34th in Class 1A and 250th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: Jordan Cantrell leaves Florala for J.B. Pennington after a couple of 7-4 seasons at the school. Both his teams qualified for the playoffs. 2024 Head Coach: Kyle Davis arrived in Florala in mid July from D.A.R. where he served as the head coach for one season. He has also been the head football coach at Geraldine, Escambia County and West End. Over the course of his career, Coach Davis' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times . Season Outlook: The Florala Wildcats will play in Class 1A region two during the 2024 season. The Florala Wildcats have put together back-to-back 7-4 seasons and have reached the playoffs in five of the past six years. Prior to 2018 they had missed out on the post season ten consecutive years so this is a pretty good run for the Wildcats. Can they take the next step and win a playoff game in 2024? It's something they have not accomplished since 2007. The Wildcats have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region two this season. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Rayshon Coleman will be returning for his senior season after completing 52-of-104 passes for 995 yards and 12 TDs last season. He also ran for another 741 yards and scored 13 touchdowns on the ground. RB Elijah McMeans will also return after rushing for 575 yards and 6 TDs last season as a junior. WR Elijah McMeans will be back for his senior season after catching 25 passes for 541 yards and 6 touchdowns. LB Rayshon Coleman collected 104 tackles (48 solo) on defense and will be returning. Elijah McMeans collected 88 tackles (41 solo) on defense and will be returning. Returning Starters: WR/CB Noah Bryan, FB/CB Greyson West, LB Bradley Norman, Landon Prescott, FB/TE Kaden Cantrell Season Opener: The Wildcats open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Monroe County on Friday, August 23 at Matthews Stadium. Last year the Monroe County Tigers finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 3A region one. The Tigers closed out the regular season with a loss to Prattville Christian by a score of 44-16. Florala and Monroe County have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 1-1-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 1924 with Monroe County winning by a score of 13-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
