Maplesville lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Elba team by a score of 49-14.

The Red Devils lost as many games as in any season since 2004.

As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Maplesville has gone a combined 158-26. Their 85.9% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Maplesville has finished a combined 251-66. Their 79.0% winning percentage ranks 2nd in Class 1A and 6th in the AHSAA. The Red Devils have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 2004.

Graduated All-State Players:
Maplesville lost 1A All-State  defensive back Johnathan Wilson to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.

Head Coach:
The Red Devils are led by head coach Brad Abbott who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 45-17 over the past five seasons at Maplesville. Under his direction the Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Abbott. Over the course of his career, Coach Abbott's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won three region championships.

If Maplesville can win ten games this season, Coach Abbott will reach the 100 win milestone.

Season Outlook:

The Maplesville Red Devils will play in Class 1A region four during the 2024 season.

Over the past twenty years Maplesville has been a dominate football program in 1A. They have qualified for the playoffs in each of the past 20 seasons winning three state championships during that time. They have only missed the post season once since 1984. The Red Devils will once again be a team in the chase for a Super 7 Championship in 2024.

Top priority this fall will be to find a replacement for graduated starting quarterback Bradlee Padgett and the 1,531 yards and 14 touchdowns he threw for last season. Coach Abbott is counting on junior Pearce Yeargan to fill that spot this season.

The Red Devils return five starters from last year on offense and eight to the defense. There will also be several newcomers to the program who will contribute early in the season.

Coach Abbott said about this year's team ''On offense we return Junior 2nd team All-State Receiver Aidan Abbott who caught 38 balls for 617 yards and 13 TDs. Also at RB 9th grader Nehemiah McCary is back who rushed for 1,037 yards on 141 carries and 16 touchdowns last year as an 8th grader. We have 8 guys returning on Defense and most of those 8 have been starting since the 9th Grade and are Juniors now. We only have 4 seniors on this year team. We're looking for a great things from this team this year after making it to the quarterfinals last year with a very young team skill wise.''

The Red Devils are considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Red Devils have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2003 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

Players to Watch in 2024:
RB Jay Lagrone will return after rushing for 481 yards and 7 TDs last season as a junior.

SS Cade Smith will also be returning after having 70 tackles (64 solo) including 3 sacks.

Returning Starters:

NEWCOMERS:Junior Quarterback Pearce Yeargan, Sophomore Slot Receiver Roman Hall, Sophomore OL/DL Braden Actheson, Sophomore MLB Michael Gee

Season Opener:
The Red Devils open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Isabella on Friday, August 30 at Bill Nabors Stadium. Last year the Isabella Mustangs finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in third place in Class 2A region four. The Mustangs lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Cottonwood by a score of 24-23.

Maplesville and Isabella have met a total of 84 times on the football field. The Red Devils have a 61-18-5 record against the Mustangs. They last met in 2023 with Isabella winning by a score of 34-14.
