 2024 Preview

Goshen completed the 2023 season with a 9-3 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region three, the Eagles earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Goshen reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Clarke County by a score of 22-15.

The Eagles won as many games as in any season since 2017. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Eagles qualified for the playoffs.

Since 2010, Goshen has gone a combined 84-73. Their 53.5% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Goshen has managed to compile a record of 142-132. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 2A and 185th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
Goshen lost 2A All-State  running back Jamauri McClure to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

Head Coach:
The Eagles are led by head coach Don Moore who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 16-16 over the past three seasons at Goshen. Under his direction the Eagles have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Moore. Over the course of his career, Coach Moore's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times .

Season Outlook:

The Goshen Eagles will play in Class 2A region three during the 2024 season.

The Eagles have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 58-42 last season. That ranks 6th in Class 2A and 51st in the AHSAA.

The Eagles enter the 2024 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak.

The Eagles have gone from 0-9 and 1-9 just three years ago to a 9-3 record last year in Coach Don Moore's third season at the helm. Their only losses were to 2A football powers Reeltown, Highland Home and Clarke County in the second round of the playoffs.

Goshen returns six players to an offense that scored 472 points last year and nine players to the defense. The offense will have their quarterback, running back and a couple of receivers back which should mean a bunch of points scored this season.

A cast of newcomers, especially along the line of scrimmage, are going to see action early in the season for the Eagles. Look for Goshen to give Highland Home a run for their money at the region 3 crown in 2024.

The Eagles are considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

Returning Starters:
OFFENSE: Szemerick Andrews-RB, Jayden McNabb-QB, Tyler McLendon-WR, Nehemiah Bedgood-OL, Jacoby Brunson-OL, Sam Adams-WR
DEFENSE: Landon Chandler-LB, Josh Terry-LB, Nehemiah Bedgood-DL, Jacoby Brunson-DL, Tristen Andrews-DL, Szemerick Andrews-LB, Jerbauri Williams-DB, Tyler McLendon-DB, Sam Adams-DB
NEWCOMERS: Zion Picatoste-K/P, Jacoby Richardson-OL/DL, Josh Terry-RB, George Crowley-OL/DL, Tristen Andrews-OL/DL

Season Opener:
The Eagles open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Alabama Christian on Friday, August 30 at Goshen Field. Last year the Alabama Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 3A region three. The Eagles lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Houston Academy by a score of 49-18.

Goshen and Alabama Christian have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Eagles have a 1-1-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 1990 with Alabama Christian winning by a score of 3-0.
