2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Greensboro finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Greensboro finished seventh in Class 3A region three with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Raiders lost as many games as in any season since 2007. The Raiders last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Greensboro averaged scoring just 7.7 points a game. The Raiders also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.1 points a game. The Raiders would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Greensboro has gone a combined 62-84. Their 42.5% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 3A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Greensboro has managed to compile a record of 113-152. Their 43.0% winning percentage ranks 39th in Class 3A and 260th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Raiders are led by head coach Deon Washington who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Greensboro. The Raiders have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Washington. Season Outlook: The Greensboro Raiders will play in Class 3A region three during the 2024 season. The Greensboro Raiders have not been successful on the football field in some time. Can second year head coach Deon Washington get them to winning games in 2024? The Raiders will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season. After just a single win last year, Greensboro will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. Season Opener: The Raiders open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Billingsley on Friday, August 23 at Robert Lucky Stadium. Last year the Billingsley Bears finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 1A region four. The Bears closed out the regular season with a loss to Thorsby by a score of 55-20. This will be the second meeting between Greensboro and Billingsley on the football field. The Raiders have a 0-1-0 record against the Bears.
