Hartselle completed the 2023 season with a 9-3 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 6A region seven, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Hartselle reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Gadsden City by a score of 22-15. Over the past two seasons the Tigers have Finished 21-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Hartselle has gone a combined 125-42. Their 74.9% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Hartselle has finished a combined 212-84. Their 72.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 6A and 35th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Graduated All-State Players: Hartselle lost 6A All-State offensive lineman Scout Arp to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Also graduating was teammate running back Ri Fletcher. Coaching Change: Bryan Moore leaves Hartselle after four successful seasons leading the football program to accept the head coaching job at Opelika. His record at Hartselle was 38-9 with four consecutive playoff appearances. Two of his teams in 2021 and 2022 finished the regular season undefeated winning a region title each season. 2024 Head Coach: Bert Newton takes over the head coaching duties from Bryan Moore after serving as defensive coordinator and associate head coach last year at Hartselle. He previously was at Vestavia Hills for one season as an assistant coach. Newton spent four years as the defensive coordinator for the Tigers. He built the Tigers defensive unit into a dominating force during his time at Hartselle. Season Outlook: The Hartselle Tigers will play in Class 6A region seven during the 2024 season. Hartselle has long been a powerhouse when high school football is discussed in north Alabama. Over the past 18 seasons they have made a trip to the playoffs 17 times winning a state championship in 2011. Coach Moore may have left for Opelika but the Tigers will still be a team to be reckoned with in 6A for some time to come. The Tigers can look back on last season and wonder what if? Injuries late in the season slowed down what could have been a championship season in Hartselle. Noah Lee came in for injured QB Landon Blackwood and played well for the Tigers last season. Ri Fletcher graduated in May but enough talent will return for the Tigers to make another deep playoff run in 2024. Other backs like Jayden Morris and Jaheim Pruitt are expected to fill that role. The Tigers are considered one of the favorites for the region seven championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2017 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. Players to Watch in 2024: WR Markus Tapscott will be returning to the offense after catching 37 passes for 462 yards and 5 TDs. QB Noah Lee returns after completing 80-of-124 passes for 713 yards and 5 TDs. He also rushed for 195 and scored 3 touchdowns. DB Jace Preuitt collected 103 tackles (65 solo) including 2 sacks and will be back for his senior season. Also returning will be LB Jamison Falciani collected 80 tackles (29 solo) including 5 sacks. Returning Starters: QB Noah Lee, RB Jayden Morris, DE Porter Simmons, LB Noah Gibson, DB Cole Miles Season Opener: The Tigers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Austin on Friday, August 23 at J.P. Cain Stadium. Last year the Austin Black Bears finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class 7A region four. The Black Bears lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Vestavia Hills by a score of 38-17. Hartselle and Austin have met a total of 58 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 32-25-1 record against the Black Bears. They last met in 2023 with Austin winning by a score of 28-17. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
