 2024 Preview

Hatton completed the 2023 season with a 7-4 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region eight, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Hatton's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Sulligent by a score of 43-12.

The Hornets last playoff victory came during the 2002 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Since 2010, Hatton has gone a combined 65-79. Their 45.1% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Hatton has managed to compile a record of 118-143. Their 45.0% winning percentage ranks 44th in Class 4A and 240th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
The Hornets are led by head coach Denton Bowling who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 41-42 over the past eight seasons at Hatton. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bowling.

Season Outlook:

The Hatton Hornets will play in Class 4A region seven during the 2024 season. The Hornets move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

The Hornets have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 4A. Their opponents had a combined record of 65-50 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 4A and 76th in the AHSAA.

Hatton will do something no other team has ever done previously. They will make the jump from 2A all the way up to 4A. It is to be determined if they can compete at this level. The Hornets have been competitive in 2A but have not won a playoff game since 2002 in 2A.

Returning quarterback Tasean Love will add a spark to the offense. Last year he accounted for over 2,100 yards of total offense. Some experience at running back and receiver will also help the cause.

Region 7 is loaded with playoff caliber teams so this should be a great region race to keep an eye on in 2024.

The Hornets could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region seven this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Unfortunately, Hatton finds themselves in a very competitive region with other playoff quality teams. They may need to pull off an upset or two to have any chance at the postseason.

Players to Watch in 2024:
QB Tasean Love will be returning for his junior season after completing 94-of-188 passes for 1,525 yards and 13 TDs last season. Love also rushed for 636 yards and 12 touchdowns.

WR Kenyon Suggs will be returning for his senior season after catching 33 passes for 645 yards and 10 touchdowns.

RB Karvieon Black will be back for his sophomore season after rushing for 683 yards and 10 TDs last season.

Returning Starters:
WR Kenyon Suggs, QB Tasean Love, RB Karvieon Black, OL/DL Trace Hill, DB Zairyon Long, OL Taegen Burleson, OL Wes Steadman, Kole McMillian, Pierce Wilson, Owen Brackin

Season Opener:
The Hornets open the 2024 season at home against region opponent Deshler on Friday, August 30 at Hatton Field. Last year the Deshler Tigers finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in second place in Class 4A region seven. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs to Westminster Christian by a score of 39-35.

This will be the second meeting between Hatton and Deshler on the football field. The Hornets have a 1-0-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in with
