2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jemison finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Jemison finished sixth in Class 5A region three with a 0-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Jemison averaged scoring just 13.3 points a game. The Panthers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, Jemison has gone a combined 50-95. Their 34.5% winning percentage ranks 45th in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Jemison has managed to compile a record of 129-141. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 5A and 208th in the AHSAA. Coaching Change: John Therrell after three seasons in Jemison John Therrell will not return for the 2024 football season. During his tenure with the Panthers his teams finished just 4-26 and failed to make the playoffs. Jemison has struggled to win football games since moving up to 5A in 2014. In the past ten seasons they have won only 25 games and did not post a winning record while losing the only two playoff games they appeared in during that time. The new hire will be the seventh head football coach since the 2020 season for the Panthers. 2024 Head Coach: Rishard Davis graduated from Maplesville High School and attended the University of Arizona before returning to Alabama at Huntingdon College where he excelled on the football field. Following graduation he went back to Arizona and landed his first head coaching job in 2014 and won a state championship in 2020. In 2021 he was an assistant at Chilton County and at Maplesville in 2022. Season Outlook: The Jemison Panthers will play in Class 5A region three during the 2024 season. The Panthers enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Panthers have struggled the past six seasons on the football field winning only eleven games during that time. Coach Rishard Davis comes in with great hope of turning around the football program at Jemison in short order. Only three opponents on the Panther's 2024 schedule qualified for the playoffs last season. Coach Davis said this about his team this season. ''Looking to establish an identity of toughness.'' The Panthers return seven starters from last season on each side of the football. They will be counting on a couple of newcomers to add a spark to the team in 2024 in #32 JP Gentry and #3 Cayvon Wade. This season, the Panthers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Luke Gann will be returning after completing 114-of-195 passes for 997 yards and 11 TDs last season. Returning Starters: RB/CB Chaz Melton, OLB AJ Ford, RB/CB Chaz Melton, FB/OLB AJ Ford, WR/CB Graden Mims, LB DaVion Slaughter Season Opener: The Panthers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent St. Clair County on Friday, August 23 at St. Clair Stadium. Last year the St. Clair County Fighting Saints finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 5A region six. The Fighting Saints closed out the regular season with a loss to Dora by a score of 47-27. This will be the second meeting between Jemison and St. Clair County on the football field. The Panthers have a 0-1-0 record against the Fighting Saints. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
