2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Marion County completed the 2023 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region five, the Red Raiders earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Marion County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Hackleburg by a score of 47-8. Marion County took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2017. The Red Raiders lost as many games as in any season since 2017. Since 2010, Marion County has gone a combined 93-69. Their 57.4% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Marion County has managed to compile a record of 148-127. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 17th in Class 1A and 147th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Red Raiders are led by head coach Kyle Williams who is entering his ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 42-44 over the past eight seasons at Marion County. Under his direction the Red Raiders have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Williams. Season Outlook: The Marion County Red Raiders will play in Class 1A region five during the 2024 season. The Red Raiders reached the playoffs the past three seasons. It's something that Marion County had not accomplished since 2012. Can they continue that streak in 2024? There will be a lot of competition for those four playoff spots in Region 5 this year. The Red Raiders have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region five this season. Season Opener: The Red Raiders open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Phillips Bear Creek on Friday, August 30 at Don Jones Field at Bill Rayburn Staduim. Last year the Phillips Bear Creek Bears finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in sixth place in Class 1A region eight. Marion County and Phillips Bear Creek have met a total of 57 times on the football field. The Red Raiders have a 46-8-3 record against the Bears. They last met in 2021 with Marion County winning by a score of 40-12. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
