Pleasant Grove lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Guntersville team by a score of 31-21. The high-scoring Pleasant Grove offense ranked 26th in the AHSAA. They averaged 40.3 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Spartans have Finished 21-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Over the past 25 seasons, Pleasant Grove has finished a combined 204-97. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 4A and 53rd in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Pleasant Grove lost 5A All-State quarterback Eric Handley to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate offensive lineman Jordan Foy. Head Coach: The Spartans are led by head coach Darrell LeBeaux who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 66-14 over the past six seasons at Pleasant Grove. Under his direction the Spartans have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times. They have won one region crown with Coach LeBeaux. Season Outlook: The Pleasant Grove Spartans will play in Class 4A region four during the 2024 season. The Spartans may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 5A to 4A. They will compete in region four this year. Pleasant Grove will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. The Spartans enter the 2024 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak. They have won 9 straight games on their home turf at Spartan Stadium. The Spartans lost staring quarterback Eric Handley to graduation and the 3,215 yards he threw for last season. Finding a replacement will be goal number one at Pleasant Grove. The good news is they slip back to 4A for the first time since 1997 so the chances of making a deep playoff run will be improved. Retuning starters at running back and receiver will give stability to those positions. The Spartans have won at least ten games in each of the past five football seasons but have yet to get that elusive state championship. They came close losing in the title games three straight seasons. All that was in 5A. Now they will test the waters in 4A starting this season. This could be very interesting and this team could be something special. Keep an eye on Pleasant Grove in 2024 they just may be still playing football in December. While most teams rebuild during the off season, Pleasant Grove has been a consistent winner the past few years and will simply reload this season. The Spartans are considered one of the favorites for the region four championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Spartans have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2011 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.
