 2024 Preview 


       McAdory completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 6A region four, the Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. McAdory's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Saraland by a score of 54-14.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, McAdory has gone a combined 116-52. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, McAdory has finished a combined 216-80. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class 6A and 23rd in the AHSAA. The Yellow Jackets have been successful on the football field with twenty-four winning seasons during this time.

Graduated All-State Players:
       McAdory lost 6A All-State  punter Humberto Rosales to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.

Head Coach:
       The Yellow Jackets are led by head coach Aryvia Holmes who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-14 over the past three seasons at McAdory. Under his direction the Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Holmes.

Season Outlook:

       The McAdory Yellow Jackets will play in Class 6A region four during the 2024 season.

      

       The Yellow Jackets lost QB Jacob Clopton (1,684 yards) to graduation. They also have a tough non-region schedule with Pleasant Grove, Helena, Gadsden City and Briarwood on the slate for 2024.

       McAdory has qualified for the playoffs in each of the past 27 football seasons. A great streak only topped by four other teams in the state. They have not won a playoff game since 2018 and would like nothing better than to break that streak this season.

       They will need to improve on defense where they allowed 288 points, the most in any season at McAdory since 1993 and second most in school history.

    The Yellow Jackets should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 1996 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2024.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      MLB Kyland Rice collected 77 tackles (36 solo) including 8 sacks and will be back for his senior season.

RB Micah Pleasant, WR Sean Tolbert, RB Derrion Davis

Season Opener:
       The Yellow Jackets open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Pleasant Grove on Friday, August 23 at Spartan Stadium. Last year the Pleasant Grove Spartans finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in second place in Class 5A region five. The Spartans lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to Guntersville by a score of 31-21.

       McAdory and Pleasant Grove have met a total of 23 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 21-2-0 record against the Spartans. They last met in 2013 with McAdory winning by a score of 41-7.
