2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Brookwood finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Brookwood finished eighth in Class 6A region four with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Panthers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2011 season and would love to end that streak this year. They have never won a playoff game in the school's history. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Brookwood averaged scoring just 13.0 points a game. The Panthers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 36.5 points a game. Since 2010, Brookwood has gone a combined 42-99. Their 29.8% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Brookwood has not won much with a record of 65-187. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 55th in Class 6A and 366th in the AHSAA. The Panthers have struggled on the football field with only three winning seasons during this time. Graduated All-State Players: Brookwood lost 6A All-State offensive lineman William Sanders to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Coaching Change: Mike Bramblett leaves Brookwood after five seasons with a record of just 12-38. His overall records stands at 22-88 at four different schools in eleven seasons as a head football coach. The last season the Panthers won more games than they lost was back in 1999. Since that time they have seen six different head coaches come and go from the football program. 2024 Head Coach: Chris Foster leaves Priceville after five seasons with an impressive 40-18 record. He took the team to four playoff appearances winning a playoff game each time. Coach Foster turned around a struggling football program winning eight games his first season in Priceville. His 40 victories are the most by a head coach at Priceville and his four playoff wins are the only ones in school history. Foster is a Brookwood native and will once again be tasked with turning around a struggling football program at Brookwood. Over the course of his career, Coach Foster's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times and won one region championship. Season Outlook: The Brookwood Panthers will play in Class 6A region four during the 2024 season. The Panthers enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. The Panthers of Brookwood have struggled on the football field for quite some time. They finished last season with a 1-9 record and have not had a winning season since 1999. They have also only qualified for the playoffs once during this time. They are 0-5 all-time in the playoffs having never even won a playoff game. A new coach and a renewed outlook could bring a change to Brookwood as former head coach at Priceville, Chris Foster, takes over the helm for the Panthers in 2024. Coach Foster tells us they will return six starters on offense and six to the defense. ''With a new head coach, the football team is set for an fresh new season. The coach brings new approach to the game and preparation. Players are adjusting to the coach's style, which is creating a sense of physicality and resilience. The first few games will be important to see how well the team can adapt and perform under the new system. It is always important to get off to a hot start. '' This season, the Panthers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region four. Returning Starters: OFFENSE: Eli Beavers, Carson Strickland, Jaylin Campbell, Leeland Brown Foster, Evin Zimmerman, Keldin Tinker Hayes DEFENSE: Brody White, Keldin Tinker Hayes, Wesley Patton, Carson Strickland, Amari Butler, Jaylin Campbell NEWCOMERS: Jordan Riley, Aiden McGee Season Opener: The Panthers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Jasper on Friday, August 23 at Billy Joe Young Field. Last year the Jasper Vikings finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 5A region five. The Vikings closed out the regular season with a loss to Homewood by a score of 38-14. This will be the second meeting between Brookwood and Jasper on the football field. The Panthers have a 0-1-0 record against the Vikings.
