2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jasper finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Jasper finished sixth in Class 5A region five with a 1-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Vikings lost as many games as in any season since 1968. The defense allowed a team record 372 points last season. Jasper was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Vikings want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.4 points a game. Jasper struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 37.2 points a game. Since 2010, Jasper has gone a combined 90-64. Their 58.4% winning percentage ranks 23rd in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Jasper has managed to compile a record of 175-103. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 14th in Class 6A and 76th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Vikings are led by head coach David Reeves who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Jasper. The Vikings have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Reeves. Season Outlook: The Jasper Vikings will play in Class 6A region seven during the 2024 season. The Vikings move up in classification to Class 6A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Vikings are coming off a 1-9 season last year. It's the fewest wins in any season since 1961. They also allowed a school record 372 points. This season the Vikings will face seven teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. The Vikings will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region seven this season. After just a single win last year, Jasper will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season. Season Opener: The Vikings open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Brookwood on Friday, August 23 at Billy Joe Young Field. Last year the Brookwood Panthers finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in eighth place in Class 6A region four. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a loss to Tuscaloosa County by a score of 42-14. Jasper and Brookwood have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Vikings have a 2-1-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 1991 with Brookwood winning by a score of 16-13. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
