2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wetumpka completed the 2023 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 6A region two, the Indians earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Wetumpka's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Helena by a score of 58-28. The defense allowed a team record 373 points last season. Since 2010, Wetumpka has gone a combined 93-68. Their 57.8% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Wetumpka has managed to compile a record of 166-117. Their 59.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 6A and 98th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Wetumpka lost 6A All-State offensive lineman Clark Barker to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season. Head Coach: The Indians are led by head coach Bear Woods who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-10 over the past two seasons at Wetumpka. Under his direction the Indians have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Woods. Season Outlook: The Wetumpka Indians will play in Class 6A region two during the 2024 season. The Indians will miss RB Nate Rogers and his 1,254 yards rushing last year. Wetumpka plays in Region 2 and only two teams from this year's lineup reached the playoffs last year and the Indians were one of them. With the addition of Percy Julian and 5A Rehobeth should not derail the Indian's hopes of returning to the post seasons in 2024. They have qualified for the playoffs in each of the past twelve seasons and this year should be no different. The Indians should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2012 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2024. Season Opener: The Indians open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Beauregard on Friday, August 23 at Hohenburg Field. Last year the Beauregard Hornets finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 5A region four. The Hornets lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Gulf Shores by a score of 48-7. This will be the second meeting between Wetumpka and Beauregard on the football field. The Indians have a 1-0-0 record against the Hornets. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
