2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Beauregard completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 2-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 5A region four, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Beauregard's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Gulf Shores by a score of 48-7. Since 2010, Beauregard has gone a combined 109-51. Their 68.1% winning percentage ranks 10th in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Beauregard has managed to compile a record of 164-111. Their 60.0% winning percentage ranks 12th in Class 5A and 94th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Beauregard lost 5A All-State offensive lineman Mason Hiller to graduation. He was named to the second team last season. Head Coach: The Hornets are led by head coach Justin Jones who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 20-13 over the past three seasons at Beauregard. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jones. Over the course of his career, Coach Jones' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times . Season Outlook: The Beauregard Hornets will play in Class 5A region four during the 2024 season. Beauregard will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season. With the AHSAA realignment region 4 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. The odd thing is that not a single one of them won a playoff game. The Hornets will face eight teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2023. They open the season with road games against Wetumpka and Anniston before opening region play the next week. The Hornets should be back in the post season for the third straight year. The offense returns no less than five players who will have an impact on the football field in 2024. The defense returns five starters with a couple of newcomers that Coach Jones will be looking to early in the season to hold down positions. The Hornets should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. Players to Watch in 2024: Coming back will be MLB Calib Piner who collected 127 tackles (63 solo) and 2 sacks as a junior. Also returning will be FS JJ Jones who collected 81 tackles (39 solo) as a sophomore in 2023.
