 2024 Preview 


       Eufaula completed the 2023 season with a 10-4 record. Last year Eufaula captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 4-1 record. It was the first region championship for the Tigers since the 2010 season. Eufaula made a nice playoff run in 2023, reaching the semi-finals before falling to a very good Gulf Shores team by the score of 45-0.

       The Tigers won as many games as in any season since 2011. The defense allowed a team record 406 points last season.

       Since 2010, Eufaula has gone a combined 109-53. Their 67.3% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Eufaula has finished a combined 208-85. Their 71.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 5A and 32nd in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Eufaula lost 5A All-State  receiver Antron Mitchell to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate defensive back Toney Coleman.

Head Coach:
       The Tigers are led by head coach Jerrell Jernigan who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-7 over the past two seasons at Eufaula. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Jernigan.

Season Outlook:

       The Eufaula Tigers will play in Class 5A region two during the 2024 season.

       Eufaula will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

       Eufaula enters the 2024 season with a string of 6 consecutive wins on their home field at Tigers Stadium.

       The Tigers lost staring quarterback Browning Anderson to graduation and the 2,403 yards and 19 touchdowns he threw for last season. Finding a replacement will be goal number one at Eufaula.

       The ten wins last year were the most in Eufaula since the 2011 football season. The Tigers will face eight teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2023. The Tigers have qualified for the playoffs in each of the past 26 football seasons. With the AHSAA realignment region 2 is crowded with six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. This will make it difficult for a couple of the teams to grab one of the four spots come November.

       The Tigers will welcome back just four starters from last year's offense and seven on defense. They should still be in the mix once November rolls around.

       Coach Jernigam had this to say about this year's team at Eufaula. ''Our goal this year is to build off of last year and maintain the mentality of 0-0 every week.''

    The Tigers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 1997 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2024.

      Returning will be LB Shamarion Smith who collected 91 tackles (59 solo) and 7 sacks as a junior.

Season Opener:
       The Tigers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent B.T. Washington on Friday, August 23 at Tigers Stadium. Last year the B.T. Washington Golden Eagles finished with an overall record of 9-5 and in third place in Class 4A region two. The Golden Eagles lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 4A playoffs to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 28-0.

       Eufaula and B.T. Washington have met a total of 22 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 21-1-0 record against the Golden Eagles. They last met in 2017 with Eufaula winning by a score of 29-22.
