2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ramsay completed the 2023 season with a 12-3 record. Last year Ramsay captured the region five title and a number one seed in the Class 5A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. The Rams won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 5A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Gulf Shores at the Alabama Super Seven 21-14 in Birmingham. The Rams had some tough luck last season as they lost three games, all by less than eight points. The defense was very stingy last season as Ramsay ranked 19th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 12.0 points a game. Over the past two seasons the Rams have Finished 25-5 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Ramsay is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only twelve seasons. They have managed a record of 105-46 over the past twelve years. Over the past 12 seasons, Ramsay has finished a combined 105-46. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 5A and 37th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Ramsay lost 5A All-State linebacker QB Reese to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate defensive lineman Demarcus Wynn. Head Coach: The Rams are led by head coach Ronnie Jackson who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 31-10 over the past three seasons at Ramsay. Under his direction the Rams have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Jackson. Coach Jackson led to a state championship in 2022. Season Outlook: The Ramsay Rams will play in Class 5A region five during the 2024 season. The Rams have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 67-37 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 5A and 15th in the AHSAA. The Rams enter the 2024 season having won 16 straight region games. The Rams came up one game short of claiming back-to-back state championships in 5A falling to Gulf Shores in the title game. Quarterback Keenan is one of the most dynamic players at any position in the state and will return for his senior season at Ramsay. The loss of running back Ashton Ashford will be felt but the Rams will find a capable runner in Jayden Martin. They also will be without receiver Kristian Stinson on the outside. Look for Tremell Washington to step up as the number one receiver this fall. The defense will only have two returning starters from last year's championship game in 2024. When you think about the fact that this football program did not even exist just a dozen years ago it is amazing what they have accomplished in such a short time. Two state championships and a runner-up finish. They have also made ten consecutive trips to the playoffs. The Rams enter the season with expectations of not only a region crown but will be contending for a trip to the state championship game. They are considered one the favorites in region five and could very well be representing the North in the Class 5A title game. The Rams have succeeded in reaching the playoffs every year since 2013 and this year should be no exception. Players to Watch in 2024: QB Kameron Keenan will be returning after completing 202-of-328 passes for 3,196 yards and 31 TDs last season. RB Jayden Martin will be returning for his junior season after rushing for 678 yards and 6 TDs last season. Also back will be MLB Marquel Patterson who collected 164 tackles (53 solo) and 3 sacks as a junior. Returning Starters: OFFENSE: QB- Kameron Keenan, OL- Lance Johnson, OL- Ryan Reese, OL Karlos May, RB- Jayden Martin DEFENSE: LB- Marquel Patterson, DB Marcus Montgomery, DL Ryan Reese Season Opener: The Rams open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Parker on Thursday, August 22 at Major Brown Memorial Stadium. Last year the Parker Thundering Herd finished with an overall record of 12-2 and in first place in Class 6A region five. The Thundering Herd lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 6A playoffs to Clay-Chalkville by a score of 38-13. Ramsay and Parker have met a total of 17 times on the football field. The Rams have a 9-8-0 record against the Thundering Herd. They last met in 2023 with Parker winning by a score of 20-17. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
