 2024 Preview 


       Southern Prep Academy completed the 2023 season with a 7-6 record. With their 3-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class AISA-8 Man region one, the Fighting Rangers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Last year Southern Prep Academy reached the semi-finals before falling to a very good Springwood team by the score of 61-14.

       The 540 points scored by the Fighting Rangers last year were a team record in a single season. The defense allowed a team record 504 points last season.

       Since 2010, the Southern Prep Academy football program has struggled with a record of 41-93.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Southern Prep Academy has not won much with a record of 60-171. Their 26.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class A and 27th in the AISA. The Fighting Rangers have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time.

Head Coach:
       The Fighting Rangers are led by head coach Roland Bell who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 36-32 over the past six seasons at Southern Prep Academy. Under his direction the Fighting Rangers have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Bell. Over the course of his career, Coach Bell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times .

Season Outlook:

       The Southern Prep Academy Fighting Rangers will play in Class A region one during the 2024 season. The Fighting Rangers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class AISA-8 Man to A. They will compete in region one this year.

      

      

    The Fighting Rangers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region one this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

Season Opener:
       The Fighting Rangers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Sparta Academy on Thursday, August 22 at Stuart McGehee Field. Last year the Sparta Academy Warriors finished with an overall record of 1-10 and in fourth place in Class A region two. The Warriors lost in the first round of the Class A playoffs to Lowndes Academy by a score of 47-0.

       This will be the second meeting between Southern Prep Academy and Sparta Academy on the football field. The Fighting Rangers have a 0-1-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in with
