 2024 Preview 


       Victory Christian completed the 2023 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Victory Christian just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 1A region six with a 2-4 region record.

       Since 2010, Victory Christian has gone a combined 48-92. Their 34.3% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 24 seasons, Victory Christian has managed to compile a record of 85-156. Their 35.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 1A and 321st in the AHSAA.

Coaching Change:
     Terry Etheredge  leaves Victory Christian after just one season with a 4-6 record.

2024 Head Coach:
    Matt Griffith  arrives at Victory Christian with more than 20 years of coaching experience under his belt. His overall record stands at 107-95 at Pell City and Sylacauga. His 107 wins rank 59th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Griffith's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times .

Season Outlook:

       The Victory Christian Lions will play in Class 1A region six during the 2024 season.

      

       The Lions of Victory Christian have finished fifth in their region the past four seasons and thus missed the playoffs each year by one game. Can they get over that hump in 2024 will be the big question for new head coach Matt Griffith. He is a veteran coach who has proven he can win.

       Only two opponents on the Lion's 2024 schedule qualified for the playoffs last season.

    The Lions have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region six this season. Victory Christian has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2019 but hope to return to the post season this year.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      RB Shepard Sargent will return after rushing for 1,456 yards and 15 TDs last season as a junior.

Season Opener:
       The Lions open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Sumiton Christian on Friday, August 23 at David Campbell Field. Last year the Sumiton Christian Eagles finished with an overall record of 0-10 and in ninth place in Class 1A region five. The Eagles closed out the regular season with a loss to Berry Fayette by a score of 34-14.

       Victory Christian and Sumiton Christian have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Lions have a 4-3-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2021 with Sumiton Christian winning by a score of 26-6.
