2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Williamson finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Williamson finished seventh in Class 5A region one with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Lions lost as many games as in any season since 2016. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Williamson averaged scoring just 11.9 points a game. Since 2010, Williamson has gone a combined 61-86. Their 41.5% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Williamson has managed to compile a record of 150-130. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 5A and 163rd in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Lions are led by head coach Antonio Coleman who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 9-12 over the past two seasons at Williamson. Under his direction the Lions have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Coleman. Season Outlook: The Williamson Lions will play in Class 5A region one during the 2024 season. Can the Lions parlay all the talent on the team into something more than three victories in 2024? Coach Coleman is very optimistic that 2024 will be the year Williamson turns the corner and contends for one of the four playoff slots in region one. Only three opponents on the Lion's 2024 schedule qualified for the playoffs last season. Look for a much improved team at Williamson in 2024. Coach Coleman told AHSFHS.org ''We return a team that lost 3 total seniors from a year ago. We are a veteran team that looks forward to competing at a very high level.'' The Lions could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Williamson came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. Players to Watch in 2024: Coming back will be FS/WR Taijh Overton who collected 116 tackles (51 solo) and 2 sacks as a junior.
