 2024 Preview 


       Murphy finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Murphy finished sixth in Class 6A region one with a 2-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The defense allowed a team record 330 points last season.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Murphy averaged scoring just 12.3 points a game.

       The Panthers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-15 record. Since 2010, Murphy has gone a combined 69-78. Their 46.9% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 6A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Murphy has managed to compile a record of 145-127. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 31st in Class 6A and 145th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Panthers are led by head coach Justin Hannah who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 2-8 record in his first season at Murphy. The Panthers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hannah.

Season Outlook:

       The Murphy Panthers will play in Class 6A region one during the 2024 season.

       The Panthers have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 6A. Their opponents had a combined record of 69-46 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 6A and 33rd in the AHSAA.

       Once the Panthers were considered the standard when it came to football in Mobile. Those days are long gone and now they just want to put a winning product on the field. It's been twelve years since Murphy won a playoff game. Since then they have had six different head coaches.

    This season, the Panthers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region one.

Season Opener:
       The Panthers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Davidson on Friday, August 23 at Warrior Stadium. Last year the Davidson Warriors finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 7A region one. The Warriors lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Central Phenix City by a score of 63-21.

       Murphy and Davidson have met a total of 62 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 39-22-1 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2021 with Davidson winning by a score of 30-7.
