2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Davidson completed the 2023 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 7A region one, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Davidson's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Central Phenix City by a score of 63-21. The defense allowed a team record 455 points last season. It marked the first time since the 2018 season that the Warriors qualified for the playoffs. Davidson had a very good offense last year, scoring 30.3 points per game, but it couldn't keep up with a defense that gave up 41.4 points per game. Since 2010, Davidson has gone a combined 77-72. Their 51.7% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 7A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Davidson has managed to compile a record of 162-115. Their 58.0% winning percentage ranks 11th in Class 7A and 108th in the AHSAA. Graduated All-State Players: Davidson lost 7A All-State running back Derrick Butler to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate offensive lineman Shaun Martin. Coaching Change: Rick Cauley leaves Davidson after leading the Warriors the past five seasons with a 15-36 record. His last squad finished 5-6 losing in the first round of the playoffs. His overall record at B. Rain, Murphy and Davison sits at 35-59 in nine seasons as a head football coach in Alabama. 2024 Head Coach: John Lambert was promoted to the head coaching job at Davidson in late May. He is a 1995 graduate of Murphy. Lambert has spent the last 25 years coaching in Mobile County. He spent 19 years at Murphy and has been at Davidson six years. He has been the defensive coordinator and co-offensive coordinator. Season Outlook: The Davidson Warriors will play in Class 7A region one during the 2024 season. The Warriors will be without RB Derrick Jerome Butler who graduated in the spring. The Warriors reached the playoffs last season for the first time since 2018 before losing in the first round. The Warriors have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region one this season. Players to Watch in 2024: Terrance Gray returns at RB after rushing for 1,166 yards and 7 TDs as a junior last season. Returning Starters: DL Stephen Caster, LB Dewayne Dixon, RB Edward Harrison, RB Terrance Gray, DB Jackson Miller, DB Isaiah Garmon, MLB/TE Dasean Little Season Opener: The Warriors open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Murphy on Friday, August 23 at Warrior Stadium. Last year the Murphy Panthers finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in sixth place in Class 6A region one. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a loss to Blount by a score of 26-6. Davidson and Murphy have met a total of 62 times on the football field. The Warriors have a 22-39-1 record against the Panthers.
