2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ardmore finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Ardmore finished seventh in Class 5A region eight with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers lost as many games as in any season since 2009. The Tigers have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2024. The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Ardmore averaged scoring just 13.1 points a game. The Tigers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 36.1 points a game. The Tigers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Ardmore has gone a combined 51-91. Their 35.9% winning percentage ranks 42nd in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Ardmore has not won much with a record of 80-174. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 5A and 341st in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Tigers are led by head coach Jonathan Snider who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 11-20 over the past three seasons at Ardmore. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Snider. Season Outlook: The Ardmore Tigers will play in Class 5A region seven during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Tigers remain in 5A but move from region eight over to region seven. The Tigers really want to bounce back from the 1-9 season from a year ago. They have only reached the playoffs once since 2013 and would like nothing better than to reverse the fortunes of the past couple of seasons. Ardmore returns eight starters on offense and eight to the defense so this should be a veteran squad for Coach Snider. There are a cast of newcomers to the program that will contribute this year as well. Coach Snider told AHSFHS.org ''We are looking to get substantially better than we were last year. We have several returning starters from last year, which a plus, but we have to find a way to be more consistent with everything we do. We have great leadership this year and great numbers in our program. However, our schedule is tough and we have to come ready to play each and every Friday night.'' This season, the Tigers will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region seven. Players to Watch in 2024: WR Noah Stafford will also be back for his junior season after catching 13 passes for 415 yards and 5 TDs last season. Returning Starters: OFFENSE:Braden Billions, Brady Sirten, Will Seabolt, Landry Rublee, Noah Stafford, Jaret Douthit, Alex King, Zavion Hawthorne DEFENSE:Dominic Murphy, Ty Clark, Cameron Jarrett, Skyler Jean, Devlin Jarrett, Brayden Atkins, Tyler McKnight, Tavien Cannon NEWCOMERS:Andrew Eckstein, Javean Riddle, Logan Newman, Aden Ellis CB Skyler Jean, RB Zavion Hawthorne Season Opener: The Tigers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Tanner on Friday, August 23 at Cooper Field. Last year the Tanner Rattlers finished with an overall record of 8-4 and in first place in Class 2A region eight. The Rattlers lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Pisgah by a score of 66-38. Ardmore and Tanner have met a total of 63 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 21-38-4 record against the Rattlers. They last met in 2021 with Ardmore winning by a score of 49-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
