Auburn completed the 2023 season with a 9-3 record. With their 6-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 7A region two, the Tigers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Auburn reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Central Phenix City by a score of 49-21. Over the past two seasons the Tigers have Finished 21-5 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Auburn has gone a combined 131-41. Their 76.2% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 7A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Auburn has finished a combined 211-90. Their 70.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 7A and 46th in the AHSAA. The Tigers have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Graduated All-State Players: Auburn lost 7A All-State offensive lineman Jalen Foster to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates kicker Towns McGough and athlete Ean Nation. Head Coach: The Tigers are led by head coach Keith Etheredge who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 31-8 over the past three seasons at Auburn. Under his direction the Tigers have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Etheredge. His 181 wins rank 21st among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Etheredge's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eighteen times and won eight region championships. He has a 46-15 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach Etheredge won five state championships prior to arriving at Auburn, the last coming in 2019 at Oxford. Season Outlook: The Auburn Tigers will play in Class 7A region two during the 2024 season. The Tigers have seen their last five seasons come to an end against either Central PC or Thompson in the playoffs. They have won at least nine games in seven straight seasons. Could this be the year they dethrone Central for that coveted region crown? Nine consecutive winning seasons for the Tigers from Auburn. Nineteen of the last twenty years have produced a winning record. They have also reached the playoffs in each of the past twenty-three seasons. They have not lost in the first round since 2014 so they are holding up the honor of region 2 quite well. The Tigers will return six starters from last year's defense and seven to the offense including all but one offensive lineman. Coach Etheredge had this to say about the 2024 Auburn High Tigers. ''Gonna be a great year with starting QB Jackson Kilgore returning along with RB Omar Mabson, WR/ATH Peyton Plott and 4 starting OL Hugh Bodiford, Aidan Platt, Clem Womack, and Trenton Pritchett. Defensively Auburn returns big time DE Caleb Pitts, and Corner La'Mykal Gunn.'' The Tigers are considered one of the favorites for the region two championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2000 and expect to be included again when November rolls around. Players to Watch in 2024: Sophomore sensation Omar Mabson returns at RB after rushing for 1,283 yards and 16 TDs in 2023. On defense the Tigers will be returning Ty Hudson who collected 94 tackles (59 solo) during his junior season last year. Also returning will be DE Cortavius Mason who contributed 81 tackles. Auburn also added transfer student Peyton Plott from Carroll who threw for 323 yards, rushed for another 607 yards and caught 53 passes for another 971 yards last year.
