 2024 Preview

J.A.G. finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year J.A.G. finished ninth in Class 7A region two with a 0-8 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Jaguars lost as many games as in any season since 2012. The Jaguars last playoff victory came during the 2003 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

The offense struggled putting points on the score board as J.A.G. averaged scoring just 8.8 points a game. The Jaguars also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 40.2 points a game.

The Jaguars would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-17 record. Since 2010, J.A.G. has gone a combined 45-99. Their 31.3% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 7A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, J.A.G. has managed to compile a record of 103-153. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 7A and 281st in the AHSAA.

Coaching Change:
Rory Bell  leaves J.A.G. after four seasons with an 8-32 record on the football field. The School has seen many changes over the past couple of decades including a name change from Jeff Davis to J.A.G. this past year. Long gone are the great teams of the 1970s and 80s. Producing a winning program will prove to be difficult for any head football coach for the foreseeable future in Montgomery.

The Jaguars have not won a playoff game since the 2003 football season in their last six trips to the post season.

2024 Head Coach:
Roy Upchurch  is a former running back for the University of Alabama. He was hired in February as the new Head Football Coach for J.A.G. High School. Upchurch was previously the offensive coordinator at Dora. He also coached at Pinson Valley prior to arriving in Dora. He played for the Tide on the 2009 National Championship team. This will be his first head coaching job.

Season Outlook:

The J.A.G. Jaguars will play in Class 7A region two during the 2024 season.

The Jaguars have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 70-43 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 7A and 23rd in the AHSAA.

The Jaguars enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 12 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

An 0-10 record last year is rock bottom for the once proud football program. They have no where to go but up and Coach Roy Upchurch will be out to see great improvement in 2024 from his Jaguars. Their last winning season was way back in 2015.

In 2024 the Jaguars will face seven teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. Their non-region schedule includes Hewitt-Trussville, Center Point and Prattville.

This season, the Jaguars will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at J.A.G. will be to simply win some games.

Returning Starters:
RB Armonte Graham, QB JaMichael Harris

Season Opener:
The Jaguars open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Hewitt-Trussville on Friday, August 23 at Hewitt-Trussville Stadium. Last year the Hewitt-Trussville Huskies finished with an overall record of 9-4 and in second place in Class 7A region three. The Huskies lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 7A playoffs to Thompson by a score of 21-10.

This will be the second meeting between J.A.G. and Hewitt-Trussville on the football field. The Jaguars have a 0-1-0 record against the Huskies. They last met in with
